What is a Best Season To Enjoy Leh – Ladakh?

Each month is a rendezvous time with these Himalayan crowning beauties; Leh and Ladakh for the unique charm they spell in respective seasons. So to suggest the best season to visit these places is not easy. Summer is a highly recommended time when the snow has melted, the weather is quite pleasant and tourist activities have just started but for the adventure freaks, snow-covered tracks and peaks are not to miss traverses. However, monsoon months from July to August should be avoided as the rains can cause landslides and blockages on the roads.

April to July is the best tourist time when the snow has already melted and the temperature is comparatively warmer. There is the hub of tourists activities like the opening of restaurants, hotels, guesthouses and camps at many beautiful locations like Pangong Tso and Moriri Lake. By the last week of April, lakes like Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri melts displaying varied colors. Srinagar-Leh highway also opens up for the vehicles; however, both Khardung La and Chang La pass remains under snow, hotels and guesthouses offer heavy discounts. From the June onwards Manali road also opens along Rohtang pass. Though beginning 7 to 10 days of the April month is not good for road travel as snow slides and blockages are routine affairs, however, weather is just amazing as you can be a witness to high snow walls on each side of the road around Rohtang pass and somewhere at Baralacha Pass.

September and October make the best season to land in Leh and Ladakh and enjoy the beauty. You can see nature swinging in different colors right through the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh roads. Various water bodies change its color to blue. It is also a time for the start of Raid-De Himalayan Rally, an event which is held every year. It is quite intriguing to watch the vehicles zooming through the difficult roads. This is also a time when the water recedes and the weather becomes dry and chilling. The condition of roads also gets much better. Though the camps began to close but this is the only time when you can witness a real beauty.

From the mid-October to Mid-November, the cold has gripped over the area reaching to sub-zero temperature. By this time all tourists have already left except for the few adventurous seekers. Most of the hotels and restaurants are closed by now. Though the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh roads are opened it is not advised to travel on this road due to the presence of the black ice.

Months between January to March are welcoming for trekkers though weather becomes quite chilling. Trekkers love the famous “Chadar Trek”, which is a thrilling walk over the frozen Zanskar River.
