Ayurvedic Massage to revitalize your body and mind

body mind

Along with the Ayurvedic medicine, the massage also known as Abhyanga is ritualistically so luring, relaxing and blissfully comforting as it can rev up the body and mind and have the power to accumulate stress and toxins. It acts as a powerful rejuvenator of body and mind. It is the next best oil massage which is highly recommended for the healing system and overall health and well-being.  As per the traditional Ayurvedic texts, having full body oil massage on a daily basis, can help pacify the doshas, relieves you from fatigue and stamina, builds the complexion and luster, promotes longevity and provide nourishment to the different parts of the body. It is like oiling the engine of your car and if done regularly can give you years of trouble free performance.

The impact that Abhyanga generates is similar to being saturated with love which in Sanskrit means Sneha giving an experience of the deeper feeling of warmth, comfort, and stability. This feeling is Sukshma that means subtle which can allow it to pass through minute channels and which can be penetrated through the deeper layers of tissue. As per Ayurvedic principles, for Sneha to reach the deepest layers, it should be massaged into the body for 800 matras for approximately five times.  If we consider that the entire body requires this type of attention, at least 15-minute massage is a suggested minimum time.

The common oils used in massage are sesame oil, herbalized massage oil, aroma massage, besides others.  These herbalized massage oils constitute mixture of chosen herbs that are known for strengthening the physiology and balance of the mind. Some of these herbs are Winter Cherry, Country Mallow, and Sensitive plant. Winter Cherry is a powerful adaptogenic acid which has natural ability to control stress and help in the balance of the emotions and mind. It also helps in regeneration of the nerves. Some Ayurvedic Vaidyas even target massage oils for instance Youthful Skin Massage Oil for Men and Women which is helpful in improving the quality of your sleep.

To do the Ayurvedic Abhyanga massage stores the warm massage oil in a massage oil plastic flip top. Warm the oil for few minutes. Soak the fingertips with the oil and apply it on the whole body. Wait for few minutes to let the oil absorbed by the skin and start massaging by applying pressure with the hands, palm and fingers. Put light pressure on the abdomen or heart. Take more oil and massage on the areas like soles of the feet, palms and along the base of the fingernails. Perform the circular movements over the areas like your head and joints and do the straight strokes over your arms and legs.

After the massage, rest for 10-15 minutes to allow the oil and massage to get seeped. More the oil is on, more deeply it needs to be penetrated. After ten minutes clean the oil with the paper towel and go for a warm bath or shower. You can do the massage at least three to four times a week and you will soon see the difference in your body and life.
